Jessica Alder

Associate Clinical Social Worker

Working with me

Everyone has a story to tell, and I feel honored to hear and receive yours. Together, we will build a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative, vulnerable, supportive, and deeply empathic. I am curious to discover the ways that you want to grow. I’m here to help you develop skills, awareness, and self-reflection to guide you on that journey. Healing is a process, and with an increased understanding of oneself and who you are in the context of family, community, and the broader cultural landscape, we can begin to formulate new practices and strategies in alignment with your stated objectives. Therapy is a gracious gift, a place to reflect, look at discomfort, and create space and momentum to be with challenges. In my opinion, there is no better way to care for oneself. I’m not an expert on your life, pain, or struggles, but I strive to be a thoughtful and compassionate witness and empower you toward insight and solutions.

About me

I’m a California native, born and raised in Santa Cruz, but I’ve spent nearly a decade in Oakland. I’ve had diverse experiences in non-profits, from cancer support for women to restorative justice. My background in interdisciplinary social science has connected me to work that recognizes systems of oppression, power, and privilege. While my creative experience in fashion and theater has allowed me self-expression and ingenuity, I sought social work and therapy as a career because it emphasizes the exploration of self, family, and society.
